Nail courses – Ligament system
Ligaments are bands of dense collagenous (sometimes elastic) fibrous connective tissues. In most cases they are only reinforcements of the articular capsule’s fibrous tissue or the mechanical parts of joints which are, however, independent from the capsules.
- link the ends of bones, which make limited motions, closely together (e.g intervertebrates, between the bones of forearm and leg),
- connect bone ends by forming a joint together with the articular capsule,
- have an important role in providing elastic support for the arches of the feet.
