Nail courses – Joints of hand

joints_of_hand1. Radiocarpal joint (wrist joint)
A biaxial ellipsodial joint found between the radius and 4 carpal bones. It permits motions of: flexion-extension, adduction-abduction.

2.Intercarpal joints
Tight joints between cuboid bones.

3.Carpometacarpal joints
Tight joints (except for thumb joint). A specific joint between the I. metacarpus and one of the carpal bones. The saddle joint allows particular motions of human hand (thumbs can be set opposite to the little finger).

4.Metacarpophalangeal joints
Limited joints with free motions, the condyle of II-V. metacarpal bones is rounded on both sides, the acetabulum is the flat, elliptical cavity of phalanges. It permits motions of: flexion-extension, adduction-abduction.

5.Interphalangeal joints
Unaxial hinge joints, the motions permitted are: flexion, extension.
